These bridges are used in a developed area. They tend to link a pedestrian or bike path over or around a major roadway, railway, or waterway.

TRAIL BRIDGE

Trail bridge sketch

These hardy bridges are located out in the wilderness. A trail bridge links a cleared trail over a creek or gorge. They need to withstand more intense weather conditions and be able to withstand higher loads because of snow, or vehicles in case of a rescue operation.

SKYWAY BRIDGE

Skyway bridge sketch

These bridges link buildings or parking decks to a building. They need to be somewhat protected from the elements but still have good sightlines for safety.

PARKS + RECREATION BRIDGE

These bridges are used for more formal parks in urban or suburban areas. They usually receive more regular maintenance, somewhat less exposure compared to a trail bridge.

This is a raised structure usually in a body of water, typically supported by well-spaced piles or pillars. The open structure allows tides and currents to flow relatively unhindered, making it well-suited for areas on the water or prone to flooding.

These tough bridges are used in factories or utility zones. They need to be able to withstand heavy equipment loads.
